Governing Board Meeting
The August meeting will be held one week early (so as not
to fall one day after school starts) on 8/18 and WILL be
held in the Board Room at Wicklund Elementary. The meeting
will begin at 7:00.
The July meeting was productive, and the agenda was very
full. We heard from an Autisim specialist due to the increase
of children diagnosed with Autisim enrolling in the district.
An update on facilities at both schools was given by Doris
Unsod, indicating that Wicklund was "99.44% complete" and
updates to Lammersville were also nearing completion. Two
more teachers were hired, one for each school, for primary
grades. Enrollments is far above expectations, with over
260 children enrolled at Wicklund and over 575 in the District.
It appears that more hiring will be on the table soon as
primary grades continue to fill up.

On May 27th, the Board discussed the name of the elementary
school in Village E. Originally, when Mountain House was
proposed back in 1997, the Board created a naming committee
to review the issue and come back with recommendations for
names of the first few schools. The names of the schools
proposed and adopted by the board are, in alphabetical order,
Altamont, Bethany, Mohr's Landing and Wicklund. Originally,
Bethany was to be the name of the first school, but after
some negotiations, it was changed to Wicklund. School #2
is to be named Bethany.
Also discussed last night was a report on the progress of
Wicklund Elementary. The construction is nearing completion,
with a punch list being prepared as the last few step in
principal construction. Part of the report included the fact
that the school was vandalized with some graffiti being done
to some of the brick vainer. This will be repaired, and steps
will be considered to assist in the prevention and removal
of any future graffiti.
