Topic: Entertainment Center (Hutch) Posted: January-23-2010 at 11:30pm |
I have a pulte home and looking if someone knows who builds custom entertainment hutches ? I know of one place who dropped off a flyer it's called Wood Design www.wooddesign.com in Turlock.
Any recommendations and/or comments would be appreciated.

I also have a pulte home and I have received quotes from many people and the lowest and the best I received so far is from Tom at Allens Home Improvements. He is from Manteca and he works for pulte. James Lemming ( customer service manager) actually recommneded this person to me.
Tom's ph: 209-825-4488
I haven't used him yet, but planning to use him after I sort out my financial problems.

I have used Hugo Aranda who lives in MH. He does very good work.
His cell number is 510-377-2471. Leave him a message if he does not pick up and he will call you back.

Hugo Aranda did custom cabinet work in our family room. He is quite the craftsman. We highly recommend him.

WoodDesign design is pretty rigid in their design. It is a custom cabinet shop, but it is customize they way they want that minimize their production cost. If you want anything done out of the extraordinary, they are reluctant to accommodate that they will slap hefty cost to you.
Hugo was pretty unreliable. Came to look at my place and I told him how I wanted it, I never heard from him again. Again, may be, he just don't want to accommodate that special design...who knows.
I finally found a guy from San Ramon to do it at a reasonable price and he will do it according you your design. Ross Bringhurst: 925-785-6196. If you want to see some picture, give me an e-mail so I can send them. Can't include any picture because of size limitation.

I've got a space 6 foot wide, 9 foot high in which to build in. I was actually wondering what people have been paying for custom jobs of similar size. I'm actually going to DIY this project but just trying to get an idea..

It all depends on your configuration and liking. # of Shelves, Drawers, Divider, Lighting, doors. Mine is 6x9 as well with 3 sectional, bottom section support by 2 vertical give 3 slot for component and each slot is support by adjustable shelves. 2 tones. 2 restraining drawer(prevent slamming), 2 glass door with simple frame swinging outward. center door rolls up and down. Frame is a simple picture frame style moulding. The 2 horizontal divider are 2" thick that can support up to 200lb...along with 2 recessed lighting.
total cost:3500.00 Wood Design quoted me for 4780.00 base on their design.

We hired Wilfredo Adajar from A-ADA Construction for our entertainment hutch and were extremely happy with the quality of his work and the reliability of his services. His website is www.a-ada.com
I would definitely hire him again.

Hi,
I recently got my entertainment center done by Allen's Home Improvement.
I am very satisfied with the product and Tom's service. I would use him again and highly recommend him for your Entertainment Center work. His contact information can be found on my first post on this topic. Check out his site. http://handitom.com/
Thanks.

For the DIY’ers:
My husband has been building out our media niche for the last 4 months. It’s not complete yet, but we are a heck of a lot closer! Albeit, we did had a minor set back when he blew out the lights in the living room installing the recessed lighting in the niche. But all is working now. He needs to install trim and sand and paint it and we are done. All in all, he’s spend $300-$400 at home depot and hours and hours on it! He will have to post a pic when he is finished (in about two more months! Lol). This was only his 2nd wood working project ever.

Sweet Colleen!!! I built a 40'x20' redwood deck, never having built one before.. It's only wood right? what you break can be fixed or replaced! I love seeing people take things into their own hands, it makes us that much more proud of ourselves to see accomplishment and to be able to sit back and say "yup! I built that!"... can't wait to see the pictures!

Yeah, he has really enjoyed making this so far. He did have to pick up a bunch new toys… ah-hem, I mean tools, as well. Saws, drills and routers, oh my! But it’s a pretty cool accomplishment!
