I have not used Kaiser since 2000 and am hoping that things have changed with them. My work changed us over to Kaiser starting this year. Is it any better then it used to be? Does anybody go to the office in Tracy? How is it? Any information current Kaiser patients could share would be greatly appreciated.

I personally liked Kaiser. I had them all my life until I went to work for the competition. The Tracy clinic has been astonishingly quick, caring and friendly. The nearest ER is in Manteca. The building is dated, but we had good service there as well. We used that facility for urgent care & weekend clinical visits.

If you have an emergency, Kaiser will cover you to go to the Tracy ER. Be sure to read their procedures though.

You say clinic when referring to the Tracy office, is that all it is (meaning you'd only go there on the weekends)? Where would you go for normal office visits Monday-Friday?

I have had no problems with Kaiser. They have an awesome on-line service, and your doctor responds promptly on there. Pediatrics has been especially good, my son has had a good relationship with his doctor (Estrada). They have a lot of choices within 1/2 hour of here (Livermore, Tracy, Manteca, Modesto, Stockton)

I dont like their internists .general practitioner doctors but pediatrics..obgyn etc are good. Clean..friendly..and fairly fast. Have had Kaiser mist of my adult life. When I didnt I had substandard care/ins. My vote..yes on Kaiser!

Kaiser financially incentivizes doctors to do less -- this is a fact.  My wife suffered from back problems and was in constant pain.  Kaiser x-rayed her back, said there was "nothing wrong" and then sent her home with (cheap) pamphlets on stress reduction and a (cheap) prescription for Soma (muscle relaxer) and Naproxin.  It wasn't until a few years later that, under a PPO, we went directly to an orthopedic specialist who finally did a proper (expensive) MRI and founded a bulging/herniated disc which required (expensive) surgery.  I strongly believe that if we were still Kaiser members, she would have NEVER been properly diagnosed and treated, and would still be in constant pain.

Don't forget about Antioch. They're only about 25 minutes away and are a full hospital. It's technically Antioch, but really seems like it's in Brentwood and is nice, quiet and not busy at all. I think Kaiser built that hospital when everything was booming in anticipation of taking the crowd from that area and things have slowed in recent years leaving a full service hospital with moderate traffic. Labor and delivery is great there. We had our first baby in Walnut Creek and our next two in Antioch. Much more room and you get a doctor much faster.

We were doing our pediatric visits in Livermore, but now go to Tracy since it's not much different, but much closer. I've had no complaints. I've been with Kaiser since 2006.

I was referring to the Manteca facility for weekend clinical visits. Tracy is M-F only.

We have Kaiser and LOVE it. We had Blue Cross/blue Shield PPO and was sad to lose it when we moved to Mountain House. We were pleasantly surprised with the excellent care from Kaiser. Our son has asthma, and our daughter has Epilepsy, so switching plans was scary.

I use the mail order option, but a few times with children who need medication right away that option is unavailable.

In four years with Kaiser I've never waited longer than 30 minutes at the pharmacy in Tracy...and that was only once. I am impressed at how quickly they move people through the line and all with a smile on their face. No complaints here.

Have routine meds mailed to you, but expect to wait for a pick up if you're in the pharmacy after 4 PM.  I don't think I've ever waited less than 35 minutes if I've had a same day pick up.  It's very easy to go to Manteca to do everything.  They are much more organized and fast!

You can use Hospital Compare to find hospitals and compare the quality of their care.

The information on Hospital Compare:

  • Can help you make decisions about where you get your health care;
  • Encourages hospitals to improve the quality of care they provide.

My family is Very happy with the quality of care at Kaiser; we have been with them since 1998…Started at the Hayward, now Union City facility. No problems with the Pharmacy either…
